SECURING YOUR HOUSE AND BUSINESS PREMISES

Last week I discussed two important aspects of security on this blog, they are the need for security consciousness in a changing world and the second is personal security. This week I will give you tips on how to secure your HOUSE and your BUSINESS PREMISES. Enjoy reading and remain safe.

  • Provide burglary proof in your house and business premises.
  • Provide adequate locks in your house.
  • Do not leave the doors and windows unlocked.
  • Provide reinforced burglary proof to large size sliding doors.
  • Never leave your lawn untended.
  • Provide security lights in your house and business premises.
  • If merchandise is displayed, keep the more expensive items inside and provide lights.
  • Make sure that the show glass gives a clear view of the entire stores so that passerby can see any intruder.
  • If a safe is required buy one and secure it to a wall.
  • Remove objects which can aid an intruder into your house e.g ladder, table and stools e.t.c.
  • Make all important business and office equipment for easy identification.
  • Install close circuit television, which will help security staff have a view of the whole store.
  • Where possible fence premises and install solid gate with sturdy locks.
  • Do not open your doors to unknown persons and teach your household to do the same.
  • Lock all the exterior doors and windows when leaving the house. Do not keep keys under door mats or other obvious places.
  • Before retiring to bed, check all your doors and windows. Never leave this to servants.
  • If air-conditioners are installed, make sure that they cannot be removed from outside to provide entry for thieves.
  • If the key to any door, sideboard, cupboard, and wardrobe is lost, replace the lock at once.
